Our Vision Statement
At Bedford Central School District, we believe learning a world language opens doors to new ideas, new cultures, and new opportunities. More than learning to communicate in another language, students develop curiosity, confidence, empathy, and a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them.
Our vision is for every student to become a thoughtful communicator and engaged global citizen. Through authentic experiences, meaningful communication, and the exploration of diverse perspectives, students build the knowledge, skills, and cultural understanding needed to thrive in an interconnected world.
We celebrate the multilingualism that already exists within our schools. Through our Spanish Language Arts program, heritage speakers and graduates of the Mount Kisco Elementary Dual Language Bilingual Education program continue to strengthen their bilingualism, biliteracy, and bicultural identities. We believe these students' language abilities are strengths to be nurtured and celebrated.
Guided by the New York State World Language Learning Standards, we strive to ensure every student can:

- Appreciate diverse cultures and perspectives.
- Make meaningful connections across disciplines and communities.
- Grow as curious, compassionate, and culturally responsive citizens.
Our goal is for every student to leave our program with more than language proficiency. We want them to graduate with the confidence to communicate, the curiosity to keep learning, and the empathy to build meaningful connections wherever life takes them.
A Multilingual Community
Bedford Central School District is proud to offer multiple pathways for students to develop proficiency in additional languages. While many students begin learning French, Italian, or Spanish in middle school, others enter Fox Lane already bilingual through their home language experiences or as graduates of the Mount Kisco Elementary Dual Language Bilingual Education program. Our Spanish Language Arts pathway builds upon these strengths by developing advanced literacy, academic language, and cultural understanding in Spanish. Together, these pathways reflect our commitment to honoring multilingualism and ensuring that every student's linguistic background is recognized as an asset.
